A MOODY, ROMANTIC WINTER WEDDING AT UNION STATION

From the very beginning, Lauren and Doug envisioned a wedding that was both darkly romantic and unmistakably Washington, DC—an immersive celebration that would introduce their guests to one of the city's most iconic landmarks. The moment they stepped inside Union Station, they knew they had found the perfect setting. Its grand Beaux-Arts architecture, rich history, and collection of distinctive event spaces provided the ideal backdrop for a sophisticated winter celebration that was as memorable as it was timeless.
The multiple spaces allowed us to host four different mini-events in a single location. Highlighting the history and reverence of what the station presents, each room has its own story and an opportunity to create a different experience.
A Moody Inspired Palette
Dark reds, rich plums, and sophisticated black formed the foundation of the design palette, accented with touches of crisp white and warm gold. Each event space carried these elements in a unique way, creating a cohesive visual story while allowing every room within Union Station to showcase its own distinct character and architectural beauty.
Cocktail hour was designed to evoke the feeling of an intimate, upscale lounge. A striking 360-degree circular bar anchored the space, surrounded by thoughtfully curated furniture vignettes that encouraged guests to mingle and linger. Interactive culinary moments elevated the experience, with chef-attended stations featuring handcrafted tartare and mini martinis, complemented by elegantly presented passed hors d'oeuvres that delighted guests throughout the evening.
The reception was, without question, the centerpiece of the celebration. Six distinct floral concepts were woven throughout the room, pairing dramatic candelabras with a thoughtful mix of towering and low floral arrangements. Rich linens and dark seating created a striking contrast
against Union Station's luminous Beaux-Arts architecture,
allowing the design to feel both bold and timeless.
Gold accents layered throughout the tablescapes,
combined with carefully placed pin-spot lighting
illuminating the elevated florals, bathed the room in a
warm, winter-inspired glow. Anchoring it all was a
custom black-and-white dance floor, the final statement
piece that completed the sophisticated design.
An Afterparty to Remember
Our afterparty brought more of a nightclub feel, utilizing the glass atrium in the Presidential Suite that was not used during the ceremony, as well as bringing in blue lighting to change the look of the space. Overall we started with a vision of a dark, moody, romantic wedding in one of the most iconic, historic spaces in Washington, DC. We secretly hoped for flurries during pictures and we got them!
